Evelyn R. (Brooks) Hoak, 98, of Buffalo Township (Butler County) passed away on Friday, February 17, 2023 in her home with her family by her side.
She was born December 12, 1924 in Clarion to the late Harry F. and Mabel I. (Tice) Brooks. She graduated from Clarion High School and Brookville Business School. Mrs. Hoak resided most of her life in Buffalo Township.
Upon his discharge from the Army, she married Clifford L. Hoak of Bairdford on March 8, 1946.
Evelyn was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Freeport. She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, sewing, genealogy, and spending time with her family. In addition to raising her own children, she and Clifford took care of nine foster children.
Mrs. Hoak leaves behind to cherish her memory, her three daughters, Linda K. Durst of Freeport, Janet E. Hoak of Conover, NC, Karen R. Hoak of Sarver, Buffalo Twp., her daughter-in-law Karen L. Hoak of Greensburg, her grandchildren, David H. (Mary) Hoak of Pittsburgh, Christopher (Lori) Hoak of Bradenville, Jeffery Durst of Freeport, Paul Durst of Freeport and Erica (Jeffrey) Hoyle of Hickory, NC, eight great grandchildren and one great-great grandson, her sister Helen J. Slagle of Knox, several nieces and nephews, and her very dear friends, Reverend David (Reverend Brenda) Ritterpusch of York, PA.
She was preceded in death by her parents mentioned above, her husband, Clifford L. Hoak on September 1, 2013, her son David L. Hoak, her son-in-law Thomas Durst, her brothers Harry F. Brooks Jr., Robert Brooks and her sisters, Infant Margaret Brooks, Catherine Vance, and Mabel E. Walker.
Family and friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Monday, Feb. 20th in the DENNIS J. DAUGHERTY FUNERAL HOME, 324 Fourth Street, Freeport, 724-295-3100 and from 10 am until the time of funeral ceremonies at 11 am on Tuesday, Feb. 21st in the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 323 Fifth Street, Freeport with her pastor, the Reverend Dr. Jeffrey A. Truscott officiating. Committal services and burial will follow in the Freeport Cemetery.
