Harry "Dick" Bartlebaugh Obituary

Harry Richard “Dick” Bartlebaugh, 97, of Cabot, formerly of Gibsonia and Freeport, passed away on Sunday, December 20, 2020 at Butler Memorial Hospital, Butler, surrounded by his family.

He was born July 28, 1923 in Natrona Heights to the late Harry Duncan and Elsie M. (Neubert) Bartlebaugh. Dick was a graduate of Freeport High School, the Class of 1941, of which he was the class president. He continued his education at Carnegie Tech where he earned his degree in mechanical engineering, after completing an accelerated course of three years to enter the U.S. Army. He spent from 1944 to 1946 and was in the 84th Infantry Railsplitters Division, where he obtained the rank of Technical Sergeant.

Mr. Bartlebaugh worked as a mechanical engineer for Koppers, Pittsburgh for 35 years, prior to his retirement in 1982. He also developed a patent for coke ovens.

He was a member of Bakerstown United Methodist Church, F. & A.M. Lodge # 239, Freeport for over 70 years, lifetime member of the Western PA Model Railroad Museum, Gibsonia. His true avocation was his family, church and model railroading.

Dick leaves to cherish his memory, his beloved daughter, Lynne (Reverend W. Stephen) Morse of Elizabeth, PA, granddaughters, Bethany and Gabrielle, his two nieces and his nephew.

In addition to his parents mentioned above, he was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Virginia B. Bartlebaugh on September 2, 2016.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, the family will hold a private visitation and funeral ceremonies on Wednesday, Dec. 23rd in the DENNIS J. DAUGHERTY FUNERAL HOME, 324 Fourth Street, Freeport, 724-295-3100. His Pastor, Reverend Keith Dunn will officiate. Private burial will follow in the Freeport Cemetery.
