John Foester Obituary

Reverend John W. Foester, 90, of Winfield Twp., formerly of Buffalo Twp., passed away on Thursday, September 8, 2022 in Good Samaritan Hospice Unit at Concordia, Cabot with his family by his side.

He was born October 29, 1931 in Vanport, Beaver County, to the late George A. and Carrie V. (Christy) Foester. John had resided in Buffalo Twp for over 38 years, prior to moving to Winfield Twp.

John was a member of the Kiskiminetas Presbytery. He was a graduate of Beaver Falls High School, Geneva College, and Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. He served Presbyterian Churches in Cameron, WV, Brownsville, PA and for twenty-five years in Freeport. He also served as Stated Clerk of Kiskiminetas Presbytery for twenty-five years, taught Presbyterian Polity and Program for eight years at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. He was a long-time and active member of the Freeport Area Kiwanis Club, served on the Freeport Area Child Welfare Committee and as the Human Services Representative of the Freeport Unit of the Salvation Army.

He served in the U. S. Army for three years and was assigned to the National Security Agency as a Vietnamese translator. He enjoyed reading, photography, gardening, traveling and spending time with his family.

Reverend Foester leaves behind to cherish his memory, his daughters, Deborah (Chuck) Sarver of Freeport, Connie (James) Hughes of Cranberry Twp., Bonnie (Gary) Devlin of Wexford, his son, John W. (Cyndy) Foester, Jr. of North Buffalo Twp., his eight grandchildren, Shannon (Scott) Murdock of South Buffalo Twp., Jessica (Joshua) Sayers of New Wilmington, Shane (Dana) Sarver of Pittsburgh, Christopher Hughes of Madison, WI, Dana (Adrian) Riddell of Gsithrtsburg, MD Michael Hughes of Redondo Beach, CA, Eric (Katie) Devlin of Emsworth, Kurt Devlin of Pittsburgh, his two step-grandchildren, Gary (Kira) Snyder of Punxsutawney, Jennifer (Justin) McMillan of Kittanning, his six great-grandchildren, six step great grandchildren, his sister, Ruth (Paul) Anderson of Toledo, OH, and several nieces and nephews.

Joh was preceded in death by his parents mentioned above, his wife of fifty-seven years, Cora “Bo” Foester, and his three brothers, Lewis, Kenneth, and George, Jr.

 At John’s request there will be no public visitation, a private family viewing was held in the funeral home. John will be buried and committal ceremonies will be held Monday morning in the Freeport Cemetery. A Public Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 am on Monday, September 12th in the United Presbyterian Church of Freeport, 411 High Street, with the Reverend Adam Clever and the Reverend Phillip Beck, co-officiating.
