Raymond E. “Ray” Burkhart, 78, of Upper Burrell Township, passed away Sunday, January 21, 2018 at St. Margaret Hospital. He was born June 24, 1939 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to the late Mervin and Catherine (Wilson) Burkhart. Raymond was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Ray was a steelworker in Verona and at the former Edgewater steel manufacturing plant in Oakmont. Then he worked as a truck driver for McCarls HVAC until his retirement in 2010. Ray was formerly a member of the Verona Eagles and Verona Moose. He enjoyed fishing, taking care of his property and going to the casino. Raymond is survived by his wife of 48 years, whom he married on July 2, 1969, Dianne M. (Mattern) Burkhart, daughter, Roberta “Bobbi” Ann Burkhart-Polak of Budd Lake, NJ, his sisters, Olive George of Monroeville and Nancy (Jim) Wagner of Monroeville, and his two grandchildren, Max and Will Polak. He was preceded in death by his parents mentioned above, brothers, Robert Burkhart, Irwin Burkhart, David Burkhart, Richard Burkhart, William Burkhart, Wilbert Burkhart and sister, Dorothy Franco. At the Ray’s request, there will be no public visitation or funeral ceremonies. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Dennis J. Daugherty Funeral Home 324 Fourth Street, Freeport.
