Alberta R. (Birdie) Posney, 87, of Freeport, passed away Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017, at Concordia Fox Chapel, O'Hara Township, with her family by her side. Birdie was born Nov. 15, 1929, to the late Andrew and Pauline (Micholas) Rezak, and resided in the Freeport area all of her life. She graduated from the Freeport High School in 1947. She worked for PPG Glass Research, Harmarville, Terrace Family Medical Associates, Leechburg, where she was the office manager for Dr. Alton Bush, and as a floral designer at the Flower Basket in Saxonburg. Birdie was an active member of the St. Mary, Mother of God, Roman Catholic Church, Freeport. In addition, Birdie was active with the Four Corners Unit of the American Cancer Society, Business and Professional Women and the Allegheny Valley Concert Association. She will be remembered for her love of baking Slovak cookies, arranging flowers and spending time on the family farm. Her survivors are her children, Bobbie Jo (David) Paraskos and Dave (Lois) Posney; grandchildren, Peter (fiancee Rebecca Sloan) and Mary Leigh Paraskos, and Stephen and Elizabeth Posney; sisters, Dorothy Rezak and Berness Cribbs. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard "Buddy" Posney; her brothers, Leonard and Joseph Rezak; and her sisters, Ann Liti, Wilma Kelly and Kathryn Krchnak. Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the DENNIS J. DAUGHERTY FUNERAL HOME, 324 Fourth St., Freeport, 724-295-3100, where a parting prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, followed at 10 a.m. by a Christian Funeral Mass at St. Mary, Mother of God, Roman Catholic Church, Freeport, with her pastor, the Rev. Ron Maquinana, as celebrant. Committal services and burial will follow in the St. Mary Cemetery, Freeport. Memorial contributions may be made to the Four Corners Unit of the American Cancer Society, 320 Bilmar Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15205. The family wishes to thank the staff of Concordia Fox Chapel for their compassionate care of Birdie over the past five years.
