Catherine Suzanne "Sue" Durandetto, 74, of Upper Burrell Township (Westmoreland County), passed away Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2016, in her residence. She was born May 24, 1941, in New Kensington, to the late William John Elwood and Shirley (Smith) Kalita and lived her entire life in the New Kensington-Upper Burrell area. Sue graduated from the Citizens General Hospital School of Nursing. She became an RN and worked for 43 years for the Veterans Administration Hospitals, Leech Farm Facility, on Highland Drive prior to retiring. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and spending time with grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Walter E. Durandetto Sr.; her two sisters, Georgia (Gerald) Fogelson, of Chicago, Ill., Cheryl Hasson, of Huntsville, Ala., Smith "Smitty" (Yvonne) Kalita, of Millersville, Md.; her step-children, Walter E. Durandetto Jr., of Michigan, Theodore "Ted" Durandetto, of Michigan, Linda (Al) Roth, of West Chester, Susan Boyd, of Irwin; 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter. Sue was preceded in death by her parents mentioned above. The family will welcome friends and family from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, at the DENNIS J. DAUGHERTY FUNERAL HOME, 324 Fourth St., Freeport, (724-295-3100). A private family funeral ceremony will take Sunday with the Rev. Harold Mele officiating.
