Donald P. Johnston, 63, of Freeport, passed away Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born April 21, 1951, in Natrona Heights, to the late Torrence Bernell "Don" and Florence M. (McLaughlin) Johnston. Don was a graduate of Freeport High School, class of 1969, and was a lifelong resident of Freeport. Mr. Johnston began his career with the Penn Central Railroad in 1969, then worked for Conrail, and retired from Norfolk Southern as general foreman of materials in 2010, after 41 years of service. In his spare time, Don was an avid golfer, enjoyed hunting and fishing, enjoyed spending time at his camp, nick named "Camp Central" due to Don hosting many traveling and local sportsman at his camp during the various fishing and hunting seasons. His greatest joy was the time he shared with his granddaughter, Addison. Don was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Freeport, Warsaw Township Sportsman Club, and golfed in the senior league at Cabin Greens Golf Course every Wednesday. Don is survived by his wife of 46 years, who was his high-school sweetheart and the love of his life, Diana L. (Kammerdiener) Johnston; his two daughters, Rene Johnston, of Freeport, and Michelle L. (Joseph) Lenhart, of Sarver, Buffalo Township; his granddaughter, Addison Lenhart; his sister, Sally Ann Johnston, of Freeport; and his brother, James R. (Karen) Johnston, of Cabot. In addition to his parents mentioned above, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Joyce Marie Johnston. Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 12th, in the DENNIS J. DAUGHERTY FUNERAL HOME, 324 Fourth St., Freeport, 724-295-3100. Additional visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 13th, in the United Presbyterian Church of Freeport, 411 High St., Freeport with the Rev. David Caves Jr. officiating. Private burial will follow in the Freeport Cemetery.
