James V. Bracken, 84, passed away on Thursday, Jan. 29, 2026, at his home in Allegheny Township, Westmoreland County. He had resided for several years in Englewood, FL, prior to his final illness.
He was born Aug. 25, 1941, in Natrona Heights, to the late Melville O. Bracken and Elaine L. (Foresha) Bracken, and spent much of his youth in Harrison Township. Jim was educated at Har-Brack High School and the University of Pittsburgh, where he graduated in 1963 with a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy. He was at one point the co-owner of Brackens Pharmacy in East Brady, Colonial Pharmacy in Ekastown, and Worthington Drug in Worthington, before his retirement in 2006.
Jim enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family and friends. He always liked being outdoors, whether he was boating, golfing, or working around the house. He was a great fan of formula racing and sports cars, especially the Shelby 289 Cobra that he restored and cherished for years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by all his brothers and sisters and their spouses: Marilyn (Phillip) Waltenbaugh, Lois (Jack) McKinney, Lawrence Bracken, and Carl (Jean) Bracken. Also by his beloved pet dog, Abby Rose. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Patricia (Miller) Bracken; and their two children, J. Eric (Kim) Bracken of Harrison City and Susan B. (Chalmer) Bentley of Newark, OH. Also by six grandchildren, Jennifer, Kate, Matthew, Rhys, Molly, and Daniel; two great-grandchildren, Eliana and Alexander; a special niece, Karen (Howard) Bricker; and three nephews.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no visitation, and interment will be private. DENNIS J. DAUGHERTY FUNERAL HOME, Freeport (724-295-3100), is assisting the family with cremation arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Good Samaritan Hospice.
