John J. Ewing II, 79 of Springdale, formerly of Tarentum, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at the Hospice Inpatient Unit at West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh with his family at his side.
He was born July 30, 1937 in Tarentum to the late John J. Ewing I and Phyllis M. (Esler) Ewing.
John lived most of his life in Tarentum.
He was a veteran having served with the U. S. Army. John was a member of the Trinity United Christian Church, Lower Burrell.
John worked as an engineering specialist for P.P.G. Industries Glass Research Division, Harmar Twp., for 46 years prior to his retirement in 2009.
Mr. Ewing was an avid gardener, that had a talent to grow anything exceptionally well. In addition, he truly enjoyed working with wood.
John leaves to cherish his memory, his daughter, Susan L. (Joseph) Reskiewicz of Brackenridge, his son, John J., III (Victoria) of Butler, his four grandchildren, Christie Ewing of Fresno, CA, Courtney (Abner) Gonzalez Ewing of Smithfield, NC, John J. Ewing IV of Butler, Michael Alexander of Studio City, CA and his sister, Mona Lee Messer of Clarington, PA.
In addition to his parents, mentioned above, he was preceded in death by his wife Patricia L. (Dixon) Ewing on April 2, 2009, and his two brothers, Michael E. Ewing in 1999 and Joel Patrick Ewing in 1956.
Family and friends will be received on Sunday, May 14th from noon to 2 pm and 5 to 7 pm in the DENNIS J. DAUGHERTY FUNERAL HOME, 324 Fourth Street, Freeport, PA, 724-295-3100, where funeral ceremonies and committal services will be held on Monday, May 15th at 11:00 am. The Reverend Dr. Cletus L. Hull III will be officiating. Private burial will follow in the Mt. Airy Cemetery, Natrona Heights, Harrison Twp.
