Kenneth R. "Ken" Elder, 77, of Freeport, passed away Thursday, April 23, 2015, at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born Feb. 12, 1938, in Freeport, to the late Phares Carl and Mildred G. (Lobaugh) Elder and spent most of his life in Freeport. Ken served his country in the Army from August of 1955 until September of 1958, during which time he earned his Parachutist Badge. He served in the 82nd Airborne Division and was stationed in Germany. Mr. Elder was owner and operator of the Kenneth R. Elder Lawn Care Service until his retirement in 1999. He was a member of Faith Community Church, Freeport, and a life member of the VFW Post 6648, Freeport. Ken leaves behind his sister, Martha L. (Joseph) Cornuett, of Freeport. In addition to his parents mentioned above, he was preceded in death by his three brothers, Sidney E., Carl P., Donald M. Elder; and his two sisters, Elizabeth Johnson and Georgene Ruedeger. At Ken's request, there will be no public visitation. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 30, 2015, at Freeport Community Church, 407 Freeport Road, Freeport, with Pastor Chuck Edwards officiating.
