Margaret McGee Obituary

Margaret F. (Weilacher) McGee, 82, of Sarver, Buffalo Twp., (Butler County) passed away on Monday, October 13, 2025, at her home surrounded by her family.

She was born September 13, 1943, in Clarendon, PA (Warren County) to the late Robert J. and Marceittus Waive (Shay) Weilacher. Margaret lived most of her life in the Freeport/Sarver areas.

Margaret was a 1960 graduate of Warren High School and earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Clarion College in 1964. She was an elementary school teacher for the Freeport Area School District. She spent most of her career teaching fourth grade at Buffalo Elementary School, which is where she met fellow teacher, Jack McGee, who “swept her off her feet.” She taught just three rooms down from his 6th grade classroom for 31 years, prior to her retirement in 1997.

Mrs. McGee was a faithful member of Zion Methodist Community Church, where she served on the Decorating Committee and sang in the Alto section of the church choir for many years. She loved traveling on road trips with her husband, cruises and day trips with her sisters, and extended family vacations around the USA, Canada, and Caribbean. She especially enjoyed the Outer Banks, searching for seashells and sea glass on the Corolla and Nags Head beaches with her family. An avid reader of romance and western books, she also dabbled in cake decorating, sewing, and quilting. Her greatest hobby was art: reverse glass, colored pencils, and decorative painting, which earned her many 1st place ribbons and Best of Show awards at various farm shows and county fairs. She was a member of the Town & Country Decorative Painters Association, which she greatly enjoyed.

Margaret leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 57 years, John R. “Jack” McGee, who she loved “a bushel and a peck”. She was so proud of her children, Beth (Stephen) Kladny of Buffalo Twp., Scott (Michelle) McGee of Langhorne, PA, and her grandchildren, Alexander (fiancé Jessica), Robert, Zachary, Quinn, and Carter. She is also survived by her sister, Sue (Al) Hazen of Athens, OH, her brother, David (Debbie) Weilacher of Jacksonville, FL and many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who will forever remember her karaoke singing, joyful dancing and infectious laughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, mentioned above, and three brothers, Robert, Norman, Kenneth and her two sisters, Patricia and Nancy.

Family and friends will be welcomed from 2-4 and 7-9 pm on Friday, October 17th and from 10:00 am until the time of funeral ceremonies at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 18th  at DENNIS J. DAUGHERTY FUNERAL HOME, 324 Fourth Street, Freeport. (724-295-3100). Her pastor, the Reverend Seth McClymonds will be officiating. Private burial will follow in the Zion Methodist Cemetery, Buffalo Twp.

The family respectfully requests memorial contributions may be made in Margaret’s memory to the Zion Methodist Community Church, 438 Bear Creek Road, Sarver, PA 16055.
