Mildred A. Artman, 101, of Buffalo Township, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015, in Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia, Jefferson Township. She was born Feb. 15, 1913, in Pittsburgh, to the late William Albert and Edna A. (Beiler) Lye. Mrs. Artman was a resident of Leechburg, where she owned and operated the Artman Dairy, Allegheny Township, from 1930 until selling the farm in 1962, then relocating to Sarver where she has resided until the present. In addition, Mrs. Artman was a press operator at DuCo Ceramics for 17 years until she retired on Nov. 4, 1977. Mildred was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sarver. She enjoyed hard and honest work, raising her family, cooking, baking and reading. Mrs. Artman is survived by her daughter, Vivian C. (James) Beers, of Buffalo Township; her son, James (Sarah) Artman, of Parks Township; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and her brother, Roy C. Lye, of Massachusetts. In addition to her parents mentioned above, Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Everett R. Artman, on Dec. 9, 1983; her son, William E. Artman, in 2009; grandson, James W. Artman; great-granddaughter, Lisa M. Janoski; brother, William A. Lye; and her sister, Wilma M. Price. Family and friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 23, in the DENNIS J. DAUGHERTY FUNERAL HOME, 324 Fourth St., Freeport, 724-295-3100, where funeral ceremonies will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, with her pastor, the Rev. Shawn Smith, officiating. Committal services and burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Allegheny Township, West Leechburg. Memorial contributions may be made to Good Samaritan Hospice.
