Roy A. Geer

Roy A. Geer, 79, of South Buffalo Twp., Armstrong County, passed away on Sunday, August 28, 2022 in the Allegheny Valley Hospital with his family by his side.

Mr. Geer was born July 7, 1943 in Natrona Heights to the late Elden H and Hallie E (Miodeszewski) Geer. He was a 1961 graduate of Har-Brack High School and a 1965 graduate of The Pennsylvania State University with a BS in Zoology. He attended San Francisco State University and is a 1975 and a 1982 graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania with M.Ed. degrees in General Science Education and in Communication Media.

As a Peace Corps volunteer, he taught science and math at St. Augustine Mission School and Chemistry at Kakata Rural Teaching Training Institute in Kakata, Liberia, West Africia. Mr. Geer volunteered for the U.S. Army Medical Service Corp and served as a medical laboratory technician with the 312th and the 91st Evacuation Hospital in Chu Lai, Viet Nam and with the 4th Field Hospital, Fort Dix, NJ. Mr. Geer taught General Science at Allegheny-Hyde Park Junior High, Kiski Area School District, Vandergrift and Science, Environmental Science, Biology and A.P. Biology at Middle and Senior High Schools, Highlands School District, Natrona Heights. After retiring from teaching, he was a Food Inspector for the USDA Food Safety Inspection Service in eastern Tennessee.

He enjoyed his family, traveling, gardening and environmental activities. He was concerned about human rights, political, national and world affairs.

Roy leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife of 54 years, Christine A. (O’Neil) Geer, daughter, Susanne C. (Kevin) Wendell, granddaughter, Phoebe E. Wendell, grandson, Andrew L. Wendell, three brothers, Elden H. Geer, Jr. of CO, Chester E. Geer of FL, Jeffery T. Geer of CA, and a sister Hallie N. Slivon of CO.

He was preceded in death by his parents mentioned above, and his son, Charles Anthony Geer in 2005.

Family and friends may call Wednesday, Aug 31st from 4 pm until 7 pm in the DENNIS J. DAUGHERTY FUNERAL HOME, 324 Fourth Street, Freeport, 724-295-3100 where funeral ceremonies will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday.
